The care label under the cushions gets checked first, then each panel is cleaned with a hand tool at low pressure. A two-seater is normally back in use by evening.

Start at the front door. Many of the 1930s semis between the town and Bush Hill Park have a gravel or block-paved drive, and the grit from it collects in the first metre of hall carpet. Lift a corner and there is often oak or pine block underneath, so the rinse is kept away from the wood at the edges.
Next, parking. Enfield signs its controlled zones street by street, each with its own hours, so your exact address is checked when you book. On the A105 cycle tracks the van cannot stop at all; it goes into a side road and the hoses come in from there.
Then the water. It is hard here, off the chalk by way of the New River, and hard water left sitting in wool dries to a dull film. Each room is extracted until the recovered water comes back clean.
Last, drying. Upstairs in the Georgian houses on Gentleman's Row and Chase Side the boards are original and wide, so those floors get a low-moisture clean. Ground floors on low land near Salmons Brook get a moisture reading before we start and another at the end.
